A graduate of Elon University's Theatrical Design and Production program, Phill was originally trained as a Stage Manager with a secondary focus on lighting and electrics. Following a two year stint at Greenville, South Carolina's Warehouse Theatre as a Production Stage Manager, Phill relocated to Bridgeport, CT where I found a home at the historic Downtown Cabaret Theatre in 2007. While he was officially a stage manager, he would ultimately, over the course of 16 years, have a hand in nearly every imaginable production role. Including props, scenic design, carpentry, media and projection design, rigging, live audio, etc.

In the Spring of 2014, Phill embraced an opportunity that would come to be career-altering: he submitted a script for an original TYA adaptation of Robin Hood that would be produced by the Downtown Cabaret Theatre and perform to the delight of audiences and critics alike. Following the success of Robin Hood, Phill would become the resident TYA playwright for the Cabaret where he would pen over 25 titles over the next decade.

While taking on writing responsibilities, Phill also moved from Stage Management to a Production Management role, though he would always have a fondness for stage management, or as he says he's "a lifetime member of the fellowship." As Production Manager he began taking a more active role in production oversight, budget tracking, scheduling, and overseeing several multifaceted productions running in rep. At any given time, there may have been as many as 4 productions in rehearsal or performance, one-off events like concerts, and space rentals all utilizing the space space and all coordinated and managed by Phill.

In addition to his Production Management and playwriting duties, Phill also stepped into the role of resident lighting designer for the Downtown Cabaret Theatre where he would design lights for everything from TYA musicals, straight plays, book musicals, concerts, and rentals. It was through his experience as a lighting designer where he gained a better appreciation for design and storytelling through lighting.

After more than 15 years at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, in 2023 Phill moved onto the much larger and more competitive market of New York city. He took a position as Production Coordinator for the Sheen Center For Thought and Culture where he finds himself today. As Production Coordinator, Phill is the on-site production lead and primary point of contact for every production using one of the Sheen Center's two stages and art gallery. Phill continues to take an active, hands-on role in all manner of theatrical production including lighting, sound, and media while also managing to oversee and coordinate the needs of every production the utilizes the Sheen Center.
